It is really a wonderful new game that we can’t wait to hit our table since it seems to have so many nice things going on for it. Rise to Nobility is a pleasant surprise that really hit us out of the blue (or should we say out of green…) and left us wanting for more…
Rise to Nobility is a brand new game that comes to shake what most gamers and newcomers to the hobby take for granted. It is all about a fantasy theme (The Five Realms), commonly shared by another game of the company called Cavern Tavern, which also features similar fantastic and eyes catching artwork. Mechanically-wise we have a dice-worker placement game where each places starts their turn by rolling five dice and yielding this way the available actions that will have to be best utilized (and or manipulated) for the current turn. Each site on the map has a very specific set of requirements in dice values making this way each decision important and crucial.
It is not all about looks and eye candy, even though these come as plenty with this game. Rise to Nobility comes with many fresh and innovative ideas. One of the main focus points of the game is the fact that in a players initial dice roll the total value of dice each player can use during the round is determined by the respective level of reputation in the city. It quickly becomes apparent that reputation is pretty important and players always aim to increase it. At the beginning of the game each player starts with a total of nine reputation and this can be increased or decreased when the player takes specific actions in the city. Another great feature of the game is that there is a large amount of options where a player can spend their dice result but that doesn’t mean that the necessary planning is not needed. On the contrary planning and deciding on what to go for and when is an important aspect of the game in order to excel and maximize profit.
In Rise to Nobility each player assumes the role of a landowner with a special and distinct ability. The aim is, as you would have imagined from the title of the game, to rise from anonymity to a prestigious and recognized lord. After ten rounds the lord with the most victory points will take the central chair at the Stone Council and will be announced as the winner of the game. Another thing that Rise to Nobility is certainly not lacking is variability and choices for pursuing victory. Players can focus on the housing and employment of their settlers in order to increase the population of the new city of Caveborn. After all settler will only ask for a house and spend the necessary goods they will reward you with victory points.
Once the Settlers are housed, players can boost the city’s economy by employing them in the Guilds and by purchasing Workshops for them. This way players ensure that you have Apprentices and Guild Masters who are loyal and will earn extra money, resources, and victory points.
Another cool feature of the game is that players can pursue negotiating with the Stone Council. One can choose to target politics and aim to deal with the members of the Stone Council in order to secure additional victory points. In Rise to Nobility each race has a representative on the Stone Council. and if the demands of a Councilor are fulfilled then the rewards will start to pour. On the other hand one needs to be careful because the other races will resent the display of favoritism, and the respective reputation will suffer, hindering the available future options in the city.
Rise to Nobility comes with tons of amazing stuff right out of the main box:

Description from the Publisher: Five years after the events of Cavern Tavern, where a fragile peace was brokered between The Five Realms, the High Queen Tabita Orestes has ordered a new city to be built. The city of Caveborn will be the capital of the Five Realms, a place where all the races will learn to live together in harmony, with the main purpose being to bring them closer and prevent another war. The Queen needs to keep the alliance between the races and ensure that Caveborn is peaceful and prosperous. To that end, a Settlers Council has been formed with Berk the Town Clerk as its chairman — but Berk is getting old and needs a successor. Are you that person? Rise to Nobility is a worker (dice) placement game set in the same fantasy world as Cavern Tavern. You each own a small piece of land in the newly built city, and your job is to rise from anonymity, make your way to the title of lord, and take over the head seat at the Stone Council. You can achieve this by upgrading your land and increasing its value, satisfying the demands of the settlers’ council, attracting and housing as many settlers as you can, accommodating their needs, finding them jobs, and helping them develop from apprentices to guild masters, thus insuring you have people in high places all around the city of Caveborn.
